Long Black Schlappen Rooster Hackle 7-8 Inch per Ounce This item is long black schlappen rooster hackle feathers densely strung (double stitched) 6-7 inches (16 cm) in length with about 200+ feathers per strung ounce. Price is per ounce with one ounce equaling about one foot (30 cm) linear measure. Schlappen is a type of rooster feather located at the base of the tail. It is a densely sewn together and easy to apply as is with numerous applications in fashion, costume design, crafts, dance outfits, masks, Carnival and Tahitian dance costumes. It is excellent fly tying material for large streamers and saltwater flies.The feathers are long, soft and flexible but wider and denser than saddle. The location of the feathers on the rooster is at the base of the tail but the stems are thinner than coque tail. This is one of my favorite feathers to work with.
